Francisco is a Venezuelan artist, born in Miami and brought to Caracas in his first year of life; a city that became the landscape of his childhood and the canvas of his formative years. He currently lives and works in Barcelona.
Working primarily in oil and homemade casein paint, Francisco channels a diverse range of influences, while navigating the intimate landscapes of his own memories: from film and music to comics and mystical traditions. A life marked by migration, shaped by the richness of his Latin American heritage, has led him to embrace uprootedness as a root.
In the early 1990s in Caracas, Francisco left his studies in economics at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) to immerse himself in design, printmaking, painting, and sculpture. In 1995, he was awarded a full scholarship to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he spent five years specializing in printmaking, painting, and experimental filmmaking.
In the early 2000s, Francisco relocated to New York City and founded the multidisciplinary creative studio Mogollon, producing work and collaborating with renowned institutions and artists, including PS1 MOMA, The Drawing Center, Ferran Adrià, Ellen Berkenblit, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Philip Glass, American Ballet Theater, The Wooster Group, and Terry Riley.
During his years in New York, Francisco also cultivated a lifelong passion for music as a collector and DJ. He has curated music compilations for the last 22 years; many of which have been showcased in renowned publications like Elephant Magazine, and the NYTimes. He held a 7+ years residency at The Lot Radio in Brooklyn and performed at local events alongside acclaimed artists such as Questlove.
Francisco’s work has been featured in major exhibitions and screenings around the world, including the Latin American Film Festival in Trieste (2001), Momenta Gallery in New York (2005), Sala Mendoza in Caracas (2005), Diesel Gallery in Tokyo (2011), ICA Boston (2002), Eyedrum Gallery in Atlanta (2002), Centre Pompidou in Paris (2012), Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan (2012), The MAD Museum in New York (2012), and the HIGH Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia (2022).
